Performance Ensembles

 

Women's Chorus

 
 

(Grades 9-12) Emphasis will be placed on fundamentals of vocal technique, sight singing, music theory, and history. Students will sing a variety of literature from all stylistic periods. There will be many performance opportunities throughout the year. This ensemble will at times sing with the Men’s Chorus under the title of Mixed Chorus and at times with Men’s Chorus and Jazz Unlimited under the title of Chorale. All members of this ensemble are expected to practice daily outside of class and be listening regularly to choral recordings.

 

Men's Chorus

 
 

(Grades 9-12) Emphasis will be placed on fundamentals of vocal technique, sight singing, music theory, and history. Students will sing a variety of literature from all stylistic periods. There will be many performance opportunities throughout the year. This ensemble will at times sing with the Women’s Chorus under the title of Mixed Chorus and at times with Women’s Chorus and Jazz Unlimited under the title of Chorale. All members of this ensemble are expected to practice daily outside of class and be listening regularly to choral recordings.

 

Jazz Unlimited

 
 

(Grades 10-12) [Prerequisite: Audition] This is an auditioned vocal jazz ensemble, requiring high levels of musicianship, ear training, blending, showmanship, self-motivation, and dedication. In addition to jazz, this group will also perform standard choral literature as part of the Bear River Chorale. They will perform as a chamber choir for festival in the spring. Those selected as members of Jazz Unlimited will be expected to make additional time commitments for individual practice and study, rehearsal, and performances. Members of this ensemble are expected to practice daily outside of class beyond their practice time for their primary ensemble and listen regularly to vocal and instrumental jazz recordings.

 

Starlite Express

 
 

(Grades 9-12) [Co-requisite: Audition, Enrollment in at least one period of Choir.] This is an auditioned show choir which will require singing, dancing, showmanship, and no small amount of sequins! It will also require commitment beyond the time put into your traditional ensemble. It is required that you are a member of one of the three choirs listed above in order to participate in Starlite Express. Starlite is host to the annual “Fantasy of Stars” Invitational. Starlite will meet a minimum of 2-3 hours one evening a week with our choreographer. Starlite will meet for vocal rehearsal one day a week in the morning and one day a week during Bruin Time. Members of this ensemble are expected to practice daily outside of class beyond their practice time for their primary ensemble. This is not a for-credit class, but rather an extra-curricular ensemble. A contract must be signed upon your selection to the show choir. Commitment to attendance at rehearsals and performances is expected in order maintain your membership in the group.
